Frome Sports & Fitness Centre update

by adamboyden on 16 January, 2017

Good news – the showers and temperature controls have been fixed at Frome Sport & Fitness Centre.  Fusion announced this last week – see here.

It is a relief. I had been asking Fusion for quite a while and raised it at the last Mendip District Council Leisure Strategic Board meeting in December, when Fusion gave a clear commitment to fixing the problem. Fusion have also installed ventilation in the pool viewing area upstairs, a cafe upstairs (by popular demand) and refurbished the squash courts and the sports hall floor, which were not in the original improvement plans. The artificial football/hockey pitch surface at the back will also be replaced over the summer.

Frome Leisure Centre was officially reopened in July as Frome Sport & Fitness by the Mayor of Frome and Vice-chairman of Mendip. I attended with other local councillors, we heard a speech from the chair of Mendip’s Leisure Board (which I am a member of) and we had a tour of the place while the Open Day started. I have been impressed with the large modern gym, and the number of young people using it, as well as the new changing rooms. Over 7 months of work and £2.5 million invested by Fusion has focused on building the new gym and fitness studios, changing rooms, reception area, soft play area and replacing the swimming pool plant (to improve water quality).

Mendip’s other main leisure centre at Wells has seen improvements lasy year to the gym, sauna, steam room and changing rooms, and new pool equipment. Repairs to Shepton Lido’s pool were undertaken last year, and repairs to Wells’ boiler are taking place currently. Planned improvements are planned by Fusion this year to Shepton Lido, Tor Leisure and Strode Swimming Pool & Fitness Centre.

Please let me know what you think of the changes, and if you have issues for me to raise – I appreciate your feedback.
