Congratulations to Frome Leisure Centre

by adamboyden on 1 November, 2011

Frome Leisure Centre has recently been rated as one of the best facilities in the region, by Quest, a nationally recognised scheme for measuring the quality of leisure centres. Quest gave Frome Leisure Centre a ‘highly commended’ score of 83%.

I recently sent congratulations to the manager and staff as this is a great achievement.  This bodes well for the future, as over the next few months Mendip Council will be reviewing its options for providing leisure services in future years. I will be keeping an eye on this area of the Council’s work closely.

Frome Leisure Forum:

Important issues surrounding the future of Frome Leisure Centre in the short term and in the long term were discussed today at the Frome Leisure Partnership Forum annual meeting, attended by local councillors including myself, and representatives of Somerset County Council,  Frome Community College (including the Principal) and Avalon Leisure.  Short term issues relate to Frome Community College’s aim to become an Academy soon.  In the longer term, Mendip District Council’s current leisure contract with Western Community Leisure Partnership and Avalon Leisure comes to an end in 2015, and the Council is reviewing the available options.

I hope to work to help ensure that Frome’s leisure facilities, including swimming, will be  maintained and improved in the future.
