Focus: Road safety on Bath Road and Gypsy Lane

by adamboyden on 2 December, 2013

With 14 more houses proposed at the former Mendip Lodge Hotel site (‘Bath Road Heights’), I am arguing for a new pedestrian crossing there to allow people, including College students, to cross the road safely to walk into town, to get a bus or go to school. Please see here for further details.

I have supported Somerset County Council’s proposal to extend the 30 mph zone down Oldford Hill past the Gypsy Lane/Cuckoo Lane junction with Bath Road, as this should slow traffic down coming into Frome.

I have also passed on local residents’ requests for speed limits to be reduced along Gypsy Lane and Cuckoo Lane, as 60mph seems way too high.

Update: Somerset Highways have informed me that their recent proposal to lower the speed limit on Oldford Hill, just to the north of the Bath Road/Gypsy Lane/Cuckoo Lane junction has been cancelled. This is really disappointing.

I assume this is due to the opposition to an increase in speed limit at Oldford, which was also proposed in the same Draft Order. Please see here for the full previous story.

I am in touch with Somerset Highways and county councillors on this and will be helping residents campaign again for a speed limit reduction on Oldford Hill to make this part of Frome safer.
