Public meeting arranged to tackle flytipping, 28th April

by adamboyden on 17 April, 2014

Press release

In response to continued complaints from local residents about the ongoing serious flytipping on Gypsy Lane and Berkley Lane, which has gone on for years just outside Frome, local district councillors Adam Boyden and Peter Knibbs have organised a public meeting on the issue. The meeting is on Monday 28th April, at 7.00 – 8.30pm at Frome Rugby Club, and all are welcome.

The meeting will give local residents a chance to hear from and question Mendip District Council’s enforcement officer, the Police and local councillors about what is being done, and what more can be done, to tackle the problem.

Councillor Adam Boyden said “The idea is that by bringing the local community and public agencies together, people can contribute ideas and get involved to help the council and police to work together on a plan to effectively eradicate flytipping in our area. I also want people to be reassured that if they know who is doing the flytipping, they can report this to the council and police without any fear.”

Councillor Peter Knibbs added “We are working across party lines on this as we are all determined to pursue this problem until it is finally resolved.”

The most recent news story about flytipping on Gypsy Lane in February can be found here.

My previous articles and advice can be seen here. You can help by:

(1) reporting what you know about the flytipping to Mendip’s Enforcement team on 0300 303 8588, or the Police on 101,to help catch the flytippers. I can assure everyone that anyone can report flytipping without fear of repercussions.

(2) cut off the supply of waste dumped by rogue traders by only doing business with those willing to produce their waste carrier licence – see if they are here, and

(3) get in touch with your concerns and let me know what you think, as I would like to know.
