Why do people want me to be their next MP?

Helen Sprawson-White, former Mayor of Frome, Independent district councillor for Frome Oakfield ward and Chair of Mendip District Council says, “I’ve been involved with local politics for around 12 years now. I started off as a Lib Dem supporting David Heath after he supported me. I went Independent 2 years ago; I felt disillusioned by the whole political world and felt I had no ‘home’. Since then I have voted Green, Labour and IfF, very much a floating voter! However, this General Election I am supporting Adam Boyden, not because he’s a Lib Dem, but because he is the only candidate standing that has a proven track record of working hard for our community. He is local, he knows our issues, he has personally taken direct action on the use of bailiffs, fracking and thanks to him we have our ‘changing places’ toilet in Frome as well as fighting for equality to save services – buses, Get Set and more. He thinks independently and works hard to support anyone, regardless of political belief or agenda. That’s why I’m backing Boyden!”

Toby Eliot, former Mayor of Frome and former Leader of Frome Town Council says, “I was for eight years until this year an active Frome Town Councillor, during that time I held various positions including that of Mayor and Leader of the Council and also worked very closely with Adam Boyden. I’m not a Liberal Democrat member, I am not a member or supporter of any national party, but I am supporting Adam Boyden in this December General Election. I’m doing so because I know Adam is an incredibly hard worker, I know Adam is passionate about the communities he represents, and I know Adam is somebody who listens and when necessary changes his mind when the facts change. But I’m also supporting Adam because I’ve been hugely disappointed and upset by the failure of the Conservative Government over the last two and half years. They’ve failed to understand how our Parliament works, they’ve failed to understand how a minority Government should work – a minority Government should reach out and compromise – and it would be terrible if we as a nation rewarded that failure by electing a Conservative majority. So I really hope that everybody takes some time and effort to think about how they can best use their single vote to the greatest effect and that they come to the same conclusion I do and will join me in voting on the 12th December in Somerton and Frome for Adam Boyden.”

Simon, a lifelong Conservative voter in Somerton & Frome, says, “Just wanted to let you know I am a lifetime Tory voter who voted for Brexit. But realise now I’ve been wrong on both counts and from now on will be a LibDem voter and will vote Remain. Good luck … With this hopefully you’ll feel that you’ve got a great chance. People like me may not be vocal or active on Facebook and Twitter but we are large in number and on the 12th Dec we will be counted. Hoping you win!”

Duncan Skene, writing in the Frome Times on 21st November 2019, writes, ” … Theo was a brilliant Green candidate last time, but he never really stood a chance and Labour are nowhere in this area. Did I ever think I’d be talking about the good old days of David Heath as our Lib Dem MP? At least he put his head above the parapet once in a while and had some sort of national presence. To halt the disastrous ten year reign of Old Etonians and and their fawning and foppish followers, in this constituency there’s only one viable course of action: vote Lib Dem. And that’s a Green lefty speaking.”

Linda from near Castle Cary says, “I am an ex-Tory voter who cannot stand their shift to right wing extremism. So I will be voting Lib Dem and doing everything I can to support Adam Boyden. Adam is a most enthusiastic and determined person, committed to helping others. His success as a councillor convinced me that he is the best candidate to represent Somerton and Frome. Adam has a level of integrity I have rarely seen in politicians.”

Paul, a former Conservative voter says, “… as I told Warburton in January, the LDs have got me for life!  As a previous Conservative member and campaigner since the 80s, I will NEVER vote Conservative again – whatever changes over time. This is what I told them … (having ended my membership in 2016). Keep up the fight …!  I’m just sorry I can’t be there to help Adam during this country-changing election.”

Veronica from Frome says, “Adam gets my wholehearted support because he is proactive, hard working and approachable, all qualities you need in your MP.”

John from Wincanton says, “Dedicated, enthusiastic, someone who really listens and sees where change is needed and gets stuck in, Adam is the candidate we need to be our MP.”

Pippa from the Langport area says, “I was a police officer, and now I’m a parish councillor. I’ve seen first hand what Conservative austerity has done to our society. We need Adam, who understands local issues, to fight for Somerton & Frome.”

David from Somerton says, “Its about values, judgement and likely delivery as an MP. Adam has a record of commitment and achievement with Mendip District Council to build on.”

Chris from Frome says, “Adam is a man of integrity and action who gets things done but in the right way. Adam cares passionately about the communities he represents; he is immensely conscientious making himself available to his constituents and always keeping in touch with current issues.”

Please see here and here for my record of action.
