Adam and Christine for Frome North

by adamboyden on 6 April, 2022

Adam Boyden and Christine Cockroft are standing to be the Somerset Councillors for Frome North and the villages at the election on May 5th, following the Government’s decision to create one unitary council for Somerset. Adam and Christine are committed, experienced campaigners with a record of action who will work hard to help and support local people and will be strong local voices on the new Somerset Council.

Adam lives in Frome with his family and cockapoo, and his day job involves assessing the environmental impacts of development projects. He is an experienced local councillor, serving the community in Frome College ward at Mendip since 2011 (with a stint on Town Council), who has led successful campaigns to improve and protect our area:

  • Adam led the transfer of the Old Showfield and parks in Packsaddle to the Town Council, which has improved them for everyone.
  • When Selwood Crescent green was threatened with development last year, Adam collaborated with residents to save the green as a valued space for the community.
  • To stop dump and run fly-tippers spoiling the Berkley Lane area, Adam proposed its pedestrianisation, which is now subject to public consultation.
  • Adam is investigating the fly nuisance around Frome sewage works through a residents survey and calling for further action by Wessex Water to stop the flies.
  • He has fought for fairness in local services by reducing the use of bailiffs in Council Tax collection, lobbying for better access to GP appointments, fighting cuts to family support services and youth centres, and leading a successful campaign for Changing Places disabled toilet facilities in Mendip to help profoundly disabled people.
  • Adam secured a pedestrian crossing island to help people cross Bath Road safely by Frome College, despite initial opposition from the housing developer.
  • Adam is active on local issues and responsive to residents, and keeps people informed about what’s going on through a newsletter at www.adamboyden.mycouncillor.org.uk – you can sign up for news alerts by emailing cllrboyden@gmail.com.

As a biochemist, Christine worked for Unilever and the Centre for Alternative Technology before moving to this area forty years ago and is still involved with environmental issues. Christine then worked in careers consultancy, further education, and technical training, was a governor at Frome College for over thirty years, an organiser for Citizens Advice, and a Mendip District and Frome Town Councillor for four years, which included being Chair of Mendip’s Audit Committee. As an experienced, passionate and knowledgeable person Christine looks forward to supporting the local community as your councillor once again.

Adam and Christine’s priorities are:

  • To make your Council responsive, open, and accountable and serve people with dignity, compassion, and truthfulness.
  • To improve and protect our environment, resist inappropriate development, secure investment into our communities, improve local services and meet local needs.
  • To stay connected and work hard for you positively and proactively, all year round.

Can you help?
