Showfield update 17 December 2013:
The proposed transfer of the old Showfield leases from Mendip District Council to Frome Town Council, has run into a problem due to a legal issue. I am supporting the transfer to FTC as it would enable FTC to manage the site and spend over £40,000 improvements fund to improve the place in line with local residents’ needs.
Local residents I have spoken to are unanimous is telling me, people want this open space kept as an open space, not built on further, and they want the councils to make the improvements local people need, including improving the footpaths, by spending the improvements fund (over £40,000 has been provided to Mendip by the Frome Health Centre development).
So I am working to try and resolve this problem over the next few weeks by talking to Mendip, Frome Town Council, the Frome and District Agricultural Society, and the FROGS local group to try and reach agreement on the best way forward
I will now be pushing for the obstacles to the transfer to be overcome, in one way or another, and will keep going on ensuring local residents can ‘have your say’ on the Town Council’s preferred improvements plan, for a fence to be built around the playground to keep dogs away from children playing, and for councils to get on with it as soon as possible, to help make the old Showfield more of an enjoyable place for everyone.
