Since 2011,I have campaigned for the old Showfield to be protected and improved. Plans were drawn up years ago, after a consultation by Frome Town Council and Vision For Frome on how to spend the £40,000 improvements fund on improving footpaths, more seating, a fence for the playground (to keep dogs out) and play equipment for younger children, areas of shorter grass for picnics and games, an outdoor gym (for healthy exercise), site security, and wildlife.
But when legal problems stopped these going ahead last year, I held talks with all parties and proposed that Frome Town Council intervene, to overcome the difficulties. This led directly to Frome Town Council agreeing to buy the main site and lease the back fields.
The Town Council took over at the end of September, in a deal I helped arrange. This is great news for local people as the improvements people have wanted for years can now go ahead.
A celebration will be held on Wednesday 30th September at the old Showfield (see poster) at 11.30am, everyone is welcome to come along and celebrate, and to ask Frome Town Council officers about their emerging plans.
Frome Town Council has agreed to consult residents on their new plans. Please get in touch to find out more and have your say.

Dear all, well done for achieving this great result regarding the showfield! Sadly I couldn’t attend the celebration yesterday, however I would to know if there is going to be a further meeting regarding future plans! As a resident of Berkeley Rd we would love to get involved.
Kate, thanks for getting in touch. After the celebration last Wednesday, Frome Town Council have agreed to set up more events and ways for people to give feedback on the options and put forward their own ideas. So to get involved in the improvement project and make suggestions, please contact Ruth Knagg on knaggr@frometowncouncil.gov.uk or call 01373 465757. Let me know how you get on!
