Alot is now happening at the Old Showfield, as a result of Frome Town Council taking over management and ownership of the main field (and lease of the back fields) last September, adopting the Management and Improvement Plan in March (after public consultation) and obtaining the ‘Section 106’ funding from Mendip District Council (largely from the Frome Health Centre development) to implement most of the Plan. Three cheers, for there are three reasons to be cheerful:
Previous news on the old Showfield improvements, and how I helped Frome Town Council take over the area to improve it for and with local residents, is here. Since Frome Town Council took over last autumn, broken street lights have been fixed, there are new bins and noticeboards, and grass is being cut shorter for games and picnics. With the new adult fitness equipment and footpaths being improved, I hope the Old Showfield will become a park to be proud of. The rest of the Town Council’s planned improvements – repairs to the play equipment, new seating, a playground fence/hedge, tree planting and wildflower meadow making – should follow.
