An online consultation has been launched to help Mendip District Council identify the extent and nature of the district’s existing local parks, woodlands, recreation and green spaces (see here). Residents are being encouraged to read and have their say on two things:

• a draft Supplementary Planning Document (see here), which gives guidance on the implementation of Local Plan policies DP2, DP16 and DP1 on the provision and protection of open space and greenspaces;
• a Greenspace Audit (see here) which aims to map and describe the main existing green spaces in the district. The map for north Frome is shown below.

The audit updates the previous Open Space Technical Paper dated 2012 (see here, with an extract of the Frome map below). Comparing the 2022 Greenspace audit with the 2012 Open Space Audit, the current study omits some smaller green spaces that could also meet the definitions given in the classification/typology, such as spaces at Mendip Drive and Selwood Crescent green, and smaller play areas, which residents might like to help identify.
