Have your say on a new political map for Somerset Council

by adamboyden on 25 October, 2024

A public consultation has been launched to help shape new council divisions for Somerset Council. The Local Government Boundary Commission for England wants to hear people’s views on where they live, to help make sure that the new divisions reflect the size and shape of local communities.

An electoral review is being carried out to make sure that each local councillor represents about the same number of electors, and that the divisions they represent reflect community identities. The Local Government Boundary Commission has decided that the number of councillors in Somerset Council should be 96, which is 14 less than the current council which has 110 members (2 for each division). The number of people covered by (and electing) each councillor will increase.

The options for retaining two councillors per division, or having smaller divisions with one councillor each, will need to be looked at. The Frome area is divided into Frome North, East and West divisions. I am one of your two councillors for Frome North which covers the Innox, Stonebridge and Fromefield areas of Frome town as well as the parishes of Berkley, Beckington, Rode, Tellisford, Lullington, and Norton St Philip.

The consultation on this stage of the electoral review of Somerset Council lasts for 10 weeks and closes on 20th January 2025, after which the Commission will draw up their proposals for new division boundaries.
