Somerset Councillor for Frome North (Lib Dem) Learn more

Later this year, in summer/ autumn, Avon & Somerset Police are moving 20 police patrol officers – who respond to 999 and urgent 101 calls in and around Frome – to a new district base in Shepton Mallet. Neighbourhood officers will remain based in Frome (police are currently looking for a new office), and the public Enquiry office will remain unchanged. Please see here and the official press release here.
I and campaigner Drew Gardner have met with officers to seek reassurances that the move will not compromise police emergency responses in the Frome area.
I have also asked our Police & Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens to assure residents that the change will not lead to any reduction in service in the Frome area.
I also note the increase in Council Tax to pay for more police officers for Avon & Somerset, announced here. Having to pay more locally for a better police service is inevitable when Government cuts are relentless and austerity continues. I have asked Sue Mountstevens to assure local residents that the tax rise will fund additional officers in every part of the Avon & Somerset area, including Frome, not only Bristol.
Please do get in touch if you have any concerns.
