Update 11 June 2015

by adamboyden on 11 June, 2015

I gave the following update via email to Frome Town Council’s extraordinary meeting on Weds 10th June as I was not able to be there in person:

‘As Fusion have now taken over the Leisure Centre, I will continue to meet Fusion at Mendip District Council’s Leisure Partnership Board as things take shape. Fusion are going public with their investment plans and arrangements with clubs and schools on 24th/25th June. I am seeking a public meeting or drop in session around that time so that residents and Leisure Centre users can talk to Fusion directly and contribute to their plans.
I understand that MDC’s Corporate Assets Management Group is going to be reformed, and we await details of this and the anticipated decisions on the proposed transfer of Tower View and Packsaddle playgrounds to the Town Council, which are due in July.
No more news on the Showfield as yet, as both councils’ lawyers are working towards agreement soon.
Tesco Express in Stonebridge has closed until January, and the shops expansion and flats development will start in the next 2 weeks. I am meeting the contractors next Tuesday with other councillors to see how disruption can be minimised, and will feed back anything useful to residents and the Town Council.

I and other MDC ward councillors for Frome had a meeting with Mendip’s leadership yesterday to discuss future arrangements for all 11 MDC Frome ward councillors working together on Mendip’s roles and decisions that affect Frome. With the Three Tier councillor meeting last week, this is another step in the right direction and should get all Frome councillors working better together.’

Please also see an update from Mendip District Council on their work at the Glastonbury Festival, which is at the end of June – http://www.mendip.gov.uk/article/4208/Councils-band-of-staff-hard-at-work-as-Glastonbury-gets-ready-to-party
I also attended the Packsaddle Community Group’s Big Lunch at the Packsaddle open space last Sunday, which was a lovely picnic lunch with over 30 residents in a lovely little park with stunning views and space for children to play. It was good to meet people and talk about the future of their local park, including plans for a boules pitch, so I hope to persuade Mendip District Council to transfer the park to Frome Town Council so it can be enhanced for the community shortly.
