Electric vehicle (EV) charging points are due to be installed in Mendip District Council-owned car parks over the summer, to help meet the council’s climate objectives.
Some 24 charging points (including ‘rapid’ and ‘fast’ chargers) are to be placed across seven Council car parks in the district by Council partner Franklin Energy, providing 56 bays for electric vehicle charging, including 8 bays in the Cattle Market car park in Frome town centre. Please see here.
Your College ward Councillor Drew Gardner was instrumental in campaigning to ensure ‘rapid’ 50kW chargers are included in the package, including by raising the issue for discussion at Mendip’s Scrutiny Board, where the proposals were debated last month (see item 6 reports here).
Once the chargers are installed, they should both be attractive to EV drivers, and help encourage other drivers to switch to cleaner electric vehicles knowing they can charge them up locally.
