Night-time noise from quarry trains idling at Lower Innox/ Mill Close, Frome

by adamboyden on 28 September, 2023

Have you been disturbed by loud noise from quarry train engines idling at the freight railway line traffic lights, next to Lower Innox and Mill Close?

Has this noise woken you up, or stopped you getting to sleep at night, especially if you have windows open at night?

I have been contacted by some local residents, and we have complained to Hanson (quarry train operator) and Network Rail, who manage the railway line and stop the trains here when the mainline is busy.

They say the problem should go away in May 2024 when an alternative route becomes available. But they have not agreed to stop noisy idling here until then.

This is clearly unacceptable. But to make a strong case for action now, we need more people to get in touch, to make Hanson and Network Rail aware it is affecting more than a few people. I need to understand how bad the problem is, who is affected and how.

So please let me know:

  • Is the idling train noise disturbing you?
  • If yes, how does it affect you?

Please do keep and send a record of any recent dates/ times and durations.

Please email cllrboyden@gmail.com or text 07809 284817. Also you can add a public comment on this article.

If you are suffering from this, get in touch and I will work with you until it is resolved.

Thank you,
