Road closure for Bath Road, Oldford Hill, Gypsy Lane and Cuckoo Lane junction safety scheme

by adamboyden on 14 July, 2022

The county council’s Small Improvement Scheme for the Cuckoo Lane/Bath Road/Oldford Hill/Gypsy Lane junction is being implemented soon. The safety improvements will reduce the speed limits around the junction with 30mph speed limit extensions around the Bath Road, Oldford Hill, Cuckoo Lane and Gypsy Lane junction, and a 40mph speed limit to the north towards Oldford, in place of the current 60mph unrestricted national limit there. This was (former) County Councillor Linda Oliver’s Minor Improvement Scheme which she submitted some time ago (see here for previous announcement), which has the aim of improving the safety and visibility at the junction. This is good news. I saw the aftermath of the recent accident a few weeks ago there – half the front of a car had been left behind, and I understand the fire & rescue service had to be called.

Details of the scheme are now available here (search for ‘B3090, Oldford Hill, Frome’) – general arrangement sheet 1 and 2, and below.

The works are expected to commence on 1st August 2022 and last for 12 days. Please follow the link to view the above road closure here, and the link for the Notice 2 (odf) here (see below). The junction will be closed to all vehicles except emergency services, so please seek alternative routes. Local routes not shown to get to the Frome Bypass will include Clink Road and Iron Mill Lane.
