Why I am standing again for your local council

by adamboyden on 23 February, 2015

I have worked hard for 4 years as your Lib Dem councillor for Frome College ward on both Mendip District Council (since May 2011) and Frome Town Councils (since December 2013), with and for the local community on a wide range of issues. If you like, I would be happy to continue to work for you.

A record of action:

Over the last 4 years I have:

1. Helped set up FTC’s purchase of the old Showfield, to overcome a legal impasse, unlock £40,000 of improvements and improve management and residents’ involvement.

2. Helped secure the future of Frome Leisure Centre and £2m investment through my involvement on MDC’s Steering Group.

3. Helped steer early stages of the amazing ‘Frome Independent’ market.

4. Worked to protect the Packsaddle play areas from development and transfer them to Frome Town Council.

5. Responded to and influenced major planning applications: Fromefield Co-op, Stonebridge shops, Mendip Lodge Hotel, and successfully opposed the 107 houses off Packsaddle Way. I have also influenced planning policy on MDC’s Local Plan Members Advisory Group.

6. Organised a public meeting, and kept the pressure on MDC to tackle flytipping at Gypsy Lane, as well as flygrazing.

7. Litter: Pushed for better street cleaning by MDC. Supported and helped organise community litter picks.

8. Acted quickly on graffiti in the area.

9. Successfully campaigned for 7 day opening at Frome recycling centre, and to get Tetrapak recycling in Frome.

10. Frome Town Council: I support positive initiatives in Frome, and persuaded FTC to freeze Council Tax in 2014/15.

11. Fracking: protected the local environment and Bath’s hot springs with a strong Lib Dem and cross-party MDC motion on fracking.

12. Represented Frome on MDC’s Corporate Assets Management Group.

13. Raised the need for our main surgery to reduce waiting times to see a doctor.

14. Supported community initiatives through my ward Community Environment Fund.

15. Campaigned for better public engagement and devolution of powers from Mendip to Frome.

16. Kept in touch with residents in person, via leaflets, email, e-newsletters and web.

17. Been positive and proactive.

18. Formed good working relationships with everyone I can, to help get things done.

A Promise of More:

I will campaign to:

  • Devolve more powers and decisions to Frome, including planning, and make Mendip listen to local people in Area Forums once more, instead of hiding in Shepton.
  • Secure the right improvements to the Leisure Centre and improve sports facilities.
  • Protect and improve local parks and open spaces for local people. Get the deal done to protect and improve the old Showfield and implement the improvements people want to see.
  • Bring sustainable jobs to Frome, and support our community’s facilities.

Please contact me on 07809 284817 or aomboyden@yahoo.co.uk to discuss anything, anytime.

Thank you, Adam

Congrats on being selected as parliamentary candidate Adam, shame it’s not for Frome. All the best.
